ABOUT THE MINISTRY
The Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare is responsible for spearheading a broad range of programmes on behalf of the Government. These include the coordination of all gender equality and women empowerment interventions, community mobilization, Adult literacy and education, child protection, probation, and rehabilitation of juveniles, mobilizing communities, empowering and protecting persons with disabilities and albinism.
The Minister heads the Ministry from the political perspective, and all Technical and Administrative Departments are headed by the Principal Secretary. Directors are responsible for the following technical departments Community Development, Gender Affairs, Social Welfare, Disabilities and Children Affairs. Directorates for Planning and Research, and Administration play a supportive role to all departments. Magomero Community Development College and Mulanje Technical and Vocational School for the Blind, each is headed by the Principal and both are responsible for Capacity Building. The other four training institutions are headed by Centre Managers. District offices are headed by District Officers for Community Development and Social Welfare.
