INTEGRATED EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT ( IECD)

IECD aims at coordinating the development and provision of early learning, stimulation and transitional services to children from 0 – 8 years; parenting education and support services to caregivers of children. The National Policy on Integrated Early Childhood Development that was approved by Government in November 2017 and its accompanying Strategic Plan (2018-2023) guide the implementation. The activities include: Coordination of provision of ECD centre based services, construction and upgrading of ECD Centres at community level; training of caregivers, mentors and management committees at community level; provision of early learning materials to community based child care centres (CBCCs); and facilitating effective transition of children from early childhood development centres to primary schools.
