Minister of Gender, Jean Sendeza, has condemned acts of violence targeting women in politics, urging collective efforts to ensure their safety and participation.
Speaking at a press briefing organized by civil society organizations and cross-party women’s directorates, Sendeza, who represents women in the Malawi Congress Party, stressed the importance of unity among women to combat election-related violence.
“It is my plea that women should work together during this campaign period. Women in this country should be allowed to express themselves freely without being hindered,” Sendeza said.
She highlighted the importance of coexistence in a democracy, acknowledging the diversity of political affiliations but calling for mutual respect.
The press briefing emphasized solidarity in tackling violence against women in elections, with stakeholders urging immediate action to protect women’s rights and dignity in the political space.
