The Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, the honorable Jean Sendeza, MP, has hailed the British Government for its continued support of the Ministry and the country as a whole.
The minister was speaking on Thursday during an audience with the British High Commissioner to Malawi, Fiona Ritchie. She cited the Tithetse Nkhanza Project, which the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), a department of the British Government, supported through the Ministry to fight gender-based violence from 2017 to 2021.
Said the Minister: "Under the project, a Technical Legal Advisor for the Ministry was recruited to manage the numerous cases of violence against women and girls to improve justice for women."
She said the project also helped to strengthen community structures such as Community Support Units, which play a crucial role in the fight against gender-based violence. In her remarks, British High Commissioner to Malawi, Fiona Ritchie, pledged her country's continued support towards keeping girls in school, women's empowerment, and social protection.
She commended the Ministry for working hard to ensure that the Disability Bill as well as the Older Persons Bill are finalized and ready for tabling in Parliament.
